2010 Apiary Meetings

Shown below are a collection of pictures from various Association meetings.

Phil Halliwell gave us an excellent talk on Bee's & Flowers. Below are some of the excellent pictures he took over the year of the wide range of trees and flowers bee's love to visit.

The season is over now for us. Apart from an odd visit on a fine day to check the hive is secure. Most beekeepers will let thier bees settle down for winter and hope they make it through.

Unwanted Pests in a hive

Every Beekeeper is worried about the spread of Varroa and the problems they can cause to a colony. I was told by a friend to watch this movie on his site and thought it would be worth sharing with every one else. Its taken from www.brnda.com but take a few minutes to watch this as I think you will be as surprised as I was with how fast the Varroa moves. I hope this may encourage all bee keepers to dust their colonies with powdered sugar and take regular mite level checks at least one a month, and treat if the levels are high.

Now if your still shocked from watching that movie heres another one from the same beekeeper this time showing the problems with Wax Moth larvae.
