Mike Holloway will be running his Introduction to bees and bee keeping starting in January 2011. 
The total course fee is £40 which will cover all the following.

The course is run in two parts starting with 6 evening sessions.

Part 1
Session 1 - Equipment
Session 2 - Management / Inspections
Session 3 - Swarm control / Management
Session 4 - Bee diseases and treatments and Hygiene
Session 5 - Forage, Harvesting and Honey Marketing
Session 6 - Assembly of Hive components and frames (practical)

Part 2
Is a series of practical hands on sessions through the spring and summer months with actual colonies. The subjects covered will include Equipment types and assembly, colony inspections, swarm control, disease recognition and honey crop harvesting and processing. During each session you will be encouraged to lift and inspect frames from the training hives at Manor Farm under Mike's expert guidance.

FDBKA Education Apiary

2009 was an exciting year for the us in fdbka, we started an education apiary at a local farm centre. Although up close access to the hives was restricted for obvious reasons of public safety.

2010 - 22 new trainee bee keepers

As we rolled into 2010 Mike Holloway was almost overwhelmed with requests to take his introduction to bee keeping course. After spending 6 evening sessions in the classroom learning the basics the trainees were shown a few hives.


 

To every ones surprise they found a mouse nest.
